NINE people were arrested after five Island restaurants were raided by immigration officers. The arrests on Wednesday and yesterday (Thursday) will be followed by steps to remove illegal workers from the country, said the UK Border Agency.

A LEAP in the number of pagans in an Island jail has added to pressure for better religious facilities. More than five per cent of the HMP Albany’s prisoners are pagans, after a rise in the past eight months from around 12 to 34, making it the fifth most practised religion in the category-B jail.

Henry de Beauchamp, 1st Duke of Warwick was crowned King of the Isle of Wight, King Henry VI assisting in person at the ceremony, placing the crown on his head. He died in 1445, aged 22. With no male heir, his regal title expired with him.
